Happy 4th

Happy 4th of July!

This year, we proudly celebrate our nation's 250th 4th of July--a remarkable milestone that reflects the enduring spirit and freedom of our country.

As the flag waves high here on the farm, it serves as a daily reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a land blessed with choices, rights, and freedoms bestowed on us by our forefathers. Today, we express our heartfelt gratitude to those who have protected these freedoms, both in the past and present.

While the 4th will be a workday here on the farm, it will end with our traditional family cookout. It's a time to gather, reflect and give thanks for our many blessings. No matter how busy the day, we pause to honor the significance of this celebration. We wish you a joyful and safe holiday weekend, filled with relaxation and cherished moments with friends and loved ones.

 Happy 250th 4th of July!!!

CLARE'S EVERLASTING SLAW

My sister Clare made this recipe for years. Since I was the baby of 9 children, and rarely saw the kitchen growing up, I knew little about cooking when Hank and I married. Clare gave this to us often and the slaw kept forever in the refrigerator, so I started calling it Everlasting Slaw. I send this out each year in memory of Clare. She always made it for our 4th of July family picnics.

One of our members was in our farm store on Saturday and told me that she was making Clare's slaw for the 4th. She has been in our CSA from it's 1st year and has made this recipe part of her family 4th. of July celebration.
Clare would be happy.

Shred, grate or chop all the vegetables in a large bowl:

1 medium head of cabbage
3 large carrots
1 large onion
3 ribs of celery
1 bell pepper

Add:
1 tbl. black pepper
3 tbl. celery seeds
1 tbl. salt

Mix together, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of sugar.

Pour over prepared vegetables and toss. This will keep in the refrigerator for weeks, and freezes well.
